Re: AT&T's Invests $200M in ONAP
Definitely! I think it's important to pick the right people, however they can't be super picky in that situation..

@dcawrey - But I think that will just drive more innovation and increase standards field-wide. The epitome of the benefits of captailism so I hear.

I think you're exactly right. Startups can't be to choosy about their clients if they are really aiming to develop innovative technologies. Especially open standard based tech in the telco arena. There are only so many customers in the space to begin with.

Re: AT&T's Invests $200M in ONAP
Well, it's interesting to see what kind of startups could even get off the ground if they were restricted in who they could sell products/services to. I'd be interested in any info on other sectors where a large incumbent company set up an investment fund for industry-related startups. For example, has a company like GM been successful with funding mobility startups?

@mhhf1ve Hard to say.

If these companies are working on open standards, it's going to be hard to limit which organizations they work with.

Re: AT&T's Invests $200M in ONAP
@mhhf1ve that's a very good question. For all the collaboration tht is happening today, I'm not sure that telecoms would be all that open to their competitors stepping in on what they set up.

I'm curious what the terms are.. if the startups aren't somehow contractually prevented from working with AT&T competitors...

@srufolo1 Investing in this stuff is risky business. However, what AT&T wiill gain in terms of knowledge will be tremendous. It might be worth even more than the money lost should a company fail.

@dcawrey As soon as AT&T can find some startups to become members of ONAP, and I guess this is where Coral Communications comes in, I'm sure this will really take off.

Re: AT&T's Invests $200M in ONAP
This is a smart way to invest - set up a fund that has specific goals in its charter. Here's hoping AT&T finds good project to invest in - this is a lot of money in a space that probably isn't that big.
