@clrmoney Yes, I think that's the crux of what Verizon's Hakl is saying. He wants everyone to get away from the "don't touch my box" mentality of the IT guys, network guys, etc ...  He believes SD-WAN is "super important." And it is.

Pretty fascinating to see providers like Verizon moving towards supporting open standards. I don't think many of us would have ever imagined that to be the case, but I think market pressures made this inevitable.

@dcawrey Never in my wildest imagination would I have predicted a vendor as huge as Verizon would go open source. You're right. The market demands it, and service providers either have to move forward or become obsolete.

@dcawrey, absolutely true!  This is a major shift!  But it is the only answer to increasing the value and overcoming the barriers that the silos have created.

@srufolo1 You have to adapt or die.

Kodak knew its demise was coming. And it didn't do enought to stop it. Some companies are able to rise above.

It's a good trend. We'll see how long it lasts? It should be instructive that standards like Ethernet are still kicking, so hopefully newer open standards have the same (or similar) lasting power....

@Dcawrey, I would have to agree with you, I am the most surprised that it is Verizon leading the charge.

It's crazy! But I agree. Everyone is to continue to move forward or be left behind. It'll be interesting to see what Verizon does next.
