Re: Event-Driven IT a Priority for CIOs
This sounds like another way of saying automation is going to drive more businesses? Companies will set up triggers based on data and analytics.. and then automated bots will try to nudge employees towards growth goals when those triggers are flipped.

@dcawrey, good point.  There clearly are patterns that are starting to develop - that are drivers transforming the industry.  I imagine there will continue to be new labels as we discover new applications.

Re: Event-Driven IT a Priority for CIOs
@Mike, thanks for clarification.  That is an excellent review of the developments in play.

I totally agree with your assessment service providers developing greater value through applications.  I think the lines will continue to blur; particularly with the leading service providers you identify.  I believe it will be more "solutions" driven, solving the customer's problems.

Re: Event-Driven IT a Priority for CIOs
@srufolo1, it is for companies to use.  It creates a new focus that requires a more enterprise-wide capability to capture data and integrate for more effective decisioin making in reducing risk, managing resources, and optimizing results - all positive opportunities and business use cases for service providers to deliver enterprise-wide and service platforms with new value.

Never heard of EDA until now.

Sounds promising. What I got from this article is that EDA is a way to make systems more flexible and efficient. Sounds pretty familiar.

Re: Event-Driven IT a Priority for CIOs
@DHagar, I agree now that SDN is moving towards more customer-facing applications and services instead of just infrastructure.

I did get an email reply from Gartner's Anne Thomas. She said that EDA operates on the application layer while service providers typically deal with infrastructure. I can see her point but I think service providers (CenturyLink, AT&T, Verizon, etc.) are starting to focus more on applications such as virtual firewalls, uCPE and SD-WAN. And using SDN/NFV to do so, back to Deborah's point.

Thomas says partnerships are perhaps the biggest role that service providers can play in regards to EDA>

Here's a quote from her: "Service providers can exploit the EDA Copernican shift and grow their business by developing partnerships with system integrators and cloud providers with an event-centric application modernization practice."

Re: Event-Driven IT a Priority for CIOs
Right. Is EDA a tool for businesses to gain market insight so that they can maximize their opportunities and bottom-lines, or is it a company that provides that service? I was also somewhat unclear on that.

Re: Event-Driven IT a Priority for CIOs
@Mike, I have not heard that time either, but I have seen its development applied to public safety and the need for "real-time" awareness of assets, geolocations, etc.

Very interesting!

Don't you believe this will further build a case as well for the value of SDN and NFV?  It all is beginning to take shape around new designs.

Also, the question becomes, will CIO's stay on top of this or miss the signs?
