Re: Splitsville for AT&T and Time Warner
Although I can understand your enthuisaism, the problem is too much consolidation--look like, for instance, what Discovery and Scripps are doing--and what is Sinclair doing with a takeover of Tribune.

Re: AT&T
@elizabethv I lean more toward strength. I am sure they are trying to make as much money as they can like any business would do, but I think this is more about diversifying in such a rapidly changing world. This way if one of their ventures starts losing money they have other revenue streams.

AT&T
Is it just me or is there a lot going on with AT&T right now? It seems like they have their hands in every cookie jar they can find. Is this a sign of their growth and strength, or a sign of trying to remain relevant?

LOL @JohnBarnes I get a slight sense of deja vu here remembering Ma Bell and the split into "baby bells" back in the last century.

So AT&T+TW is just a transitional stage ...
... specifically, a transitonal stage between a giant telecom and a giant media corporation becoming ....

a giant telecom and a giant media corporation.

I hope some regulator at least asks them, "You guys are just doing this for the hell of it, right?"

Re: Splitsville for AT&T and Time Warner
It certainly would be ideal for these two businesses to be run separately.

Given the geographic locations for each unit, it appears that already is going to be the case. That said, making it official is going to make regulators happy.

Re: Splitsville for AT&T and Time Warner
Mike: I am assuming that Dreamworks will be under the media arm of AT&T? I am wondering if there will be any direct benefit of these two being separate but connected entities like DirecTV viewers having access to certain content faster than other cable subscribers.

Re: Splitsville for AT&T and Time Warner
Chris: Time Warner owns CNN, HBO, etc. The whole point of AT&T buying Time Warner is to own content producing entities. Time Warner does not provide Internet access, wireline and wireless services like AT&T does.
