Re: Snap Snap
Now I just saw this https://www.theverge.com/2017/10/23/16523568/snap-spectacles-unsold-units-hundreds-thousands-report which indicates less than stellar prospects for Snap:

Spectacles were one of last winter's hottest gifts, but apparently demand for them quickly died off and left Snap in a bad position. The Information reports that Snap expected demand for Spectacles to continue after the holidays and ordered "hundreds of thousands" of additional units. But after it opened sales to a wider audience, that didn't happen, and those units are now reported to be sitting around in warehouses, unsold.

It's not known exactly how many Spectacles have been sold so far, but from the sound of it, Snap may have dramatically over-ordered units of its debut hardware device. Earlier this month, Snap CEO Evan Spiegel said the company had sold "over 150,000 units," which sounds pretty bad in the context of having hundreds of thousands sitting around waiting to be sold; although The Information says that figure includes unassembled units with parts that could potentially be used in other products.

@Batye I'm sure you're right. Many want to take in info through video rather than text. I'm the type of dinosaur who tends to prefer text, though I do appreciate some good visuals that present stats and the like clearly.

Re: Snap Snap
@Ariella it could be related the way we do process information as this days youth do not like to read and more relay on visials/video/pictures/photos :)

Re: Snap Snap
@afwriter I do hear marketers talking about Instagram a lot more than about SnapChat. It is possible, though, that those who aim for that target audience direct more attention to it.

Re: SnapChat
The founders of Snapchat were very courageous to turn down Facebook as they did--Facebook also needs to be very vigliant.

Re: SnapChat
Yes That's correct--and I would not be surprised if Comcast (NBC Universal's Parent) does not expand this even further  (as it has, say, with BuzzFeed; Vox; etc.).

Re: Snap Snap
Snapchat is the "tool" of choice for the young right now--but Instagram is coming up real fast--and its' parent, Facebook, is also modifying things further--in the "mix" though, there is one more Facebook Planet, WhatsApp< which was left out with its' increasingly video capabilties as well...

Re: Snap Snap
I found it "kind of strange" that I was in the majority (for once) noting that how Snap will survive as a "Niche Player"--Snap has one edge (that was recently underscored) about the news and the advent of fake news that Google/Facebook et. al were caught in--Snap is able to be the Engine of choice--how it monentizes, though, is the challenge  as we all by now.

Re: Snap Snap
I took a social media management class where they would not stop talking about how Instagram is the future of advertising. I know that some companies have had success using Snap for marketing but Instagram is the better tool to use in that case.
