All for SD-WAN
I'm all for SD-WAN/Software Defined-Wide Area Network as it relates to network connectivity, ethernet  and being a valuable asset for customers and businesses. I think if something need improvement or its not working properly then theyu should go back and rethink and come up with a better solution so that it will be a success.

Re: All for SD-WAN
@clrmoney, I believe his assessment is very realistic.  You can't just implement it with the existing silos - it truly has to be integrated.  I further believe that is where platforms will make sense and companies will be required to develop new hybrid capabilities that will expand and link the silos as well.

This will not be easy and will require architecture and new engineering designs, as well as the leadership skills to build the capabilities to transform and achieve the value from SD-WAN.  When it is developed appropriately I believe it will sell itself; but requires a lot of work getting there.  A test for the true leaders!

Love this idea of network-as-a-service.

NaaS anyone?

I also think it’s a try and fail kind of approach. It’s important for them to try different things and see what works and what doesn’t.

SD-WAN
My view here is that, while SD-WAN may not be the ultimate or even enabling penultimate invention in networking, it's a pivotal development toward "smart" networking that can help allow efficient network traffic organizing at scale. The SON is only steps away, so it would seem.

@JoeStanganelli, I agree with you in that it is only one tool that offers advantages and disadvantages - but it does add new value - IF one fits it into an intelligent design.
