Bonuses
It is great that AT&T and Comcast employees and possibly other employees will receive bonuses. In addition, employees salaries have been stagnant for several years so the bonuses will slightly help to fill the gap.

Losers
Although telco employees win by receiving bonuses, customers lose because they may have to pay higher fees, suffer fast lane speed preferences and other issues that will come along with the protection of net neutrality.

Telco Bonuses
Unfortunately, this is another example of how the rich get richer and the poor get poorer. Consumers already pay too much for telco services and fees. They will now pay more with net neutrality. In addition, telco executives and shareholders will be the only ones that win.

Re: Telco Bonuses
This is an opportunity to see whether trickle down economics can work. Some people still dispute that it did work in the 80s, as there was tremendous wealth generation in that decade. However, what's questionable is if it only helped wealthy people or not.

Re: Losers
@freehe - I wonder how the 2,000 people AT&T laid off just before announcing the bonuses feel about the whole thing? Actually, the University of Phoenix did something similar, right around Christmas as well. They laid off a few hundred people, and then a few weeks later announced we would all be getting bonuses for the holiday. Personally, a fair number of us would have rather seen the bonus money have been spent to keep a few of those jobs.

Re: Comcast & AT&T Bonuses etc.
@Ariella - companies haven't been doing much to show employee appreciation for a long time. My grandfather, personally, was flabbergasted when I told him I have literally never held a job that offered me any kind of pension. The word is nearly foreign to me. My husband's current employer shows their "appreciation" by offering a family health insurance plan that would literally cost him half his monthly salary.

Re: Comcast & AT&T Bonuses etc.
@afwriter - 100% a diversion. The bonuses were annouced the same day as the tax reform and that just isn't something they came up with on the seat of their pants the day it was annouced. I'd bet there was some dealing for them to do so just to make the reform look better.

Re: Comcast & AT&T Bonuses etc.
@elizabethv Oh, yes, it's possible that some union and government jobs still offer pensions, but no one expects them outside of those contexts. You're lucky if your job offers to match anything on a 401K nowadays.

I definitely think they more than deserve this. They’re constantly working to develop new technologies!
