Re: 5G Phase II
@batye, well said!  Which is why our purchasing of new technologies only gain 25% of the desired ROI!

We need to move into understanding what we need and want to accomplish our goals and then buying those services and products that best fit our needs.  Otherwise we are buying a grab bag of capabilities and operating with less certainty that we are getting true value.

Re: 5G Phase II
@batye, great points!  It is a buyer beware - just because something is published on the web does not make it any more legitimate or secure!  That is where we need to learn discernment with all technologies and get past the "gee whiz" state!  Just because we CAN do something does not mean that we should.

Re: 5G Phase II
@mpouraryan, those are cautionary points!  But being aware will be the best security.  There will always be disingenious marketers (go back to the early "medicine men" who sold snake oil!)  So they will always try, but "informed" and knowledgeable consumers will discern and buy real value versus the gimmicks - over the long run!

Actually, AI and other information tools may provide a greater transparency that will even further aid consumers!

Re: Impatient
@mpouraryan, good thoughts!  Yes, the new and relevant issues should be raised at that Conference.  It is an ongoing learning proposition to deal with the evolving issues that are coming from the increased mobiility and telecommunications role in our commerce and society.

Re: 5G Phase II
..and as an addendum to the thought process, I wanted to share this as we, I hope, underscores how what has been discussed is ever so vital:

AI in 2018. Artificial intelligence is cracking the code on a whole family of non-procedural problems, such as image recognition, autonomous systems and anomaly detection. These advancements, however, are often drowned out by disingenuous marketing.

Re: Impatient
It starts with Education no doubt--and a willingness to accept (without being "overwhelmed") by the technology.   One thing I'm Particularly keen is the upcoming MobileWorld Congress that I am sure our brethern at Light Reading * and by extension Us* will have a lot to chew over...it is bound to be a very very very very busy few weeks indeed.

Here is a TechCrunch "preview" of it for all:

Re: Impatient
@mpouraryan, thanks for sharing your concern!

Yes, and as I point out there is, nor should be, a global answer, the market choices will be within companies and individuals as to how they adapt and implement and use/value the technology.  So the good news is that we CAN create the future if we choose.  That is a matter of staying informed (i.e., Telco Transformation), and making choices that truly add value to the company AND the human capability.  If we do that we should move into the future with gains rather than losses.
