Re: TIM 5G
@freehe For not knowing much about the city of Turin, you certainly have provided a lot of information. The only thing I can think of the town is its claim to be in possession of the cloth Jesus wiped his face with, projecting his image onto it. Thank you for the rest of the facts. I did not know it hosted the Olympics in 2006.

TIM 5G
This is great for Italy. I have never heard of the city Turin. Deployigng 5G makes good business sense because it is a thriving business and cultural city. It is also the headquarters of the car maker Fiat and Alfa Romero. However, it is a small city with less than 900,000 residents.

The city has a rich cultural tradition and history which makes it a great candidate for 5G and IoT. It is ranked third in economic power behind Milan and Rome.

Turin was also the host of the 2006 Olympics. When 5G is implemented commercially Turin could be a candidate for a future Olympics.

Re: efficiency
@afwriter, a big problem when one or two dominate the markets and access - truly.  Let's hope the market grows and attracts competitors to avoid that with 5G?

I'm sure that most people forget and for some people, today's cell bills are all they've ever known, but I remember my bill going up $30 per line when I switched from a standard cell phone to a smartphone.

Re: efficiency
@afwriter, well those are excellent points!  You may be right.  If the leaders choose, they may capture the new markets and hold the consumer "hostage".  Hopefully they will consider the long-term affects of that and build a better market.  But I am certain the temptation will be there for short-term gains.

Re: efficiency
Hopefully, some of those cost saving are passed down to the consumer. The consumer costs of 5G are starting to worry me. It is entirely possible that our bills won't go up at all but I have a feeling they will.

TIM Turns 5G Up in Turin
Funny, when I think of Turin, I think of the shroud of Jesus. It's amazing what is being accomplished in Italy with 5G exploits, in partnership with Huawei. Can't wait to see what comes out of the Mobile World Congress. Exciting times for technology indeed.

Re: efficiency
@Ariella, agreed!  That is impressive!  The lower costs, PLUS greater capability should make 5G really attractive and drive markets further.  This will attract the followers as well as the leaders.  Everyone likes a "success" story.

< seven times more efficient than LTE> Wow, that really is an impressive improvement! It really should be explored and adapted.
