Algorithms Will Run The Network..
Let's just hope humans will still be able to understand what's going on.. Otherwise, we might run into problems when the AI fails, causing the network to shutdown -- and no one knows why.

@mhhf1ve interesting point, with A.I. it only matter the time before we gonna see A.I. everywhere and yes A.I. could give errors... as with out errors no learning  :)

Re: Algorithms Will Run The Network..
That's certainly worth considering. Do you think they have a kill switch for algorithmic switching? I would expect technical folks working on data center design have seen a robot sci-fi movie before...

Re: Algorithms Will Run The Network..
There are some AI research folks working on ways to figure out how to comprehend what AI is doing when it "self-trains" and does things that humans haven't thought of. AlphaGo has apparently gotten so good at the game of Go that even human grandmasters of the game don't understand how it thinks.... Maybe someday we'll figure out how it arrived at its strategies, but we're not there yet.

Re: Algorithms Will Run The Network..
@mhhf1ve, yes, now you are getting into the cognitive computing - which is beyond the predictive AI and developing new solution possibilities that expand our options.   I am working on some projects with both predictive and cognitive and it makes me realize we have to stay sharp!  But that is how AlphaGo has outperformed on Go -it has learned the distinctive elements that enable it to outperform its opponents.  I sure don't want to challenge it!

But if we design the right fits for AI and human intelligence, we will have the best of all worlds!

Or we may also discover that there's an asymptotic limit to intelligence, whether it's human or artificial. Maybe things get only get so smart.. and not smarter? Just as there's a speed limit to the universe -- there might also be an intelligence limit.

Re: Algorithms Will Run The Network..
@mhhf1ve, interesting thought!

No, I believe that any intelligence is not finite in that in actuality we discover then recreate - which results in transformation.  So I see it as an unlimited horizon of discovery - whether artificial or human - at least in our lifetimes.  I dont' think there are limitis to capabilities.

I guess I am also confirming Moore's Law 2.0?

Re: Algorithms Will Run The Network..
I saw the AlphaGo articles. Very impressive, indeed. I didn't realize more research was needed to understand how AI self-trains. I guess I should have considering the odd songs and artwork that's been created as a result of AI self-training...

Re: Algorithms Will Run The Network..
@Michelle, good insight.  Yes, with AlphaGo as an example, we will have to learn new techniques to learn, discover, and apply - which is what happened in the development of Watson as well with AI and Jeopardy.

I guess that means that we have to become smarter to keep advancing the possibilities?

@Michelle, they certainly need to understand the risks of "unleashed" technology!  Actually, that is the problem we are finding in the dilemmas (ie Facebook, cyber security), etc., where we underestimate the risks.  We think we have everything under control.  We have to discover what the new risks are so we can keep the dilemmas to a minimum - with human killswitches as a safety net!

I think it's safe to assume we have no idea what the end result will be and should prepare for at least 100 terrible outcomes for every 1 good one. I'm sure that's totally scientific and will work. :)

@Michelle, great points on equal possibilities of negative outcomes as positive outcomes.  I believe that is the learning lesson for Facebook now, don't you think?  I think they will learn a great deal through their visits to Washington this week.

I have heard the statement that risk is not what we know, but what we don't know!  I am increasingly becoming a believer!
