Re: Graphene is way better than semiconductors
@mhhf1v  According to the video, it's affordable and super-strong. So it appears there will be many uses for it once they start producing it in large quantities.

Re: Graphene is way better than semiconductors
Graphene is far easier to make than diamond.. but it's still tricky to make in the right form and quantities. Hopefully, it won't be too much longer before graphene is a commonly made material and used in everyday devices.

Re: Graphene is way better than semiconductors
There's a lot of research that seems to work at first but then can't be replicated, and I vaguely recall there being research on synthesizing artificial diamonds in large quantities, too. But I don't think that actually became an economically feasible process -- otherwise we'd have a lot more things made of diamonds now. But then there's always the conspiracy theories that say DeBeers is sitting on the research so that their business isn't disrupted completely.

@mhhf1ve I think they did as after few years all references been wiped out about they research and I could not find anything... maybe they figure it and use it in space weapon research... who know...

There has been a LOT of research trying to develop new ways to grow graphene sheets at larger and larger sizes -- or into tubes or different morphologies. But to my knowledge, no one has cracked the problem yet.

That is the $64,000+ question. Producing the material in the right conformations/quantities is a serious challenge right now. But maybe someday we'll have a space elevator with graphene tethers...

@batye I do have to say that once this technology gets going and is applied to the uses it's suited for, there will be no stopping it. Maybe it's something to think about investing in.
