Funding
Hopefully government funding that NSF receives is not cut during this administration. This research is greatly needed and will truly help propel the 5G initiative.

Emergency Response
It is great that one of their goals is to provide 5G for first-responders and surgeons which always need real-time data. Some doctors still use paper files for patients. This will be very helpful during natural disasters and emergencies that result in increased mobile usage (cell phones, laptops, and other portable devices).

5G and instrastructures
5G is greatly needed to provide real-time data for traffic accidents and roads and infrastructure. This will also be helpful for roads and bridges that are in need of repairs. Sensors can be installed to detect weaknesses and obstructions in roads and bridges which can be fixed much sooner to prevent catastrophes such as the bridge collapse in Atlanta Georgia in March 2017.

This United States Government agency, founded in 1950 and mostly dedicated to research on science and engineering, really gets it! Wow. So happy to hear that New York City is on its list of 5G research. This is extremely exciting news!

NSF Breaks Ground on 5G
"The group's goal is to expedite the market for 5G technology, provide practical training for students and future workers and help the US maintain its wireless leadership position."
Providing training for students and future workers is what is seriously needed in this country. Hopefully, the word gets out to students hoping to attain such training and skills.

NSF Breaks Ground on 5G
Apparently combining tech training and a university degree is already happening. Just saw an ad online about DeVry University offering "tech-infused degrees in business, tech and health" to compete in todays digitally advanced world.

@srufolo1 - Interesting, the University of Phoenix had degrees similar to that when I worked there, and I left almost 6 years ago now. The Tech and Health degree (can't for the life of me remember its actual name right now) was supposed to help people get into Medical Billing and Coding. Supposedly. That was how they low key marketed it. In reality it left far more people in a ton of debt with no degree. Even the ones that finished rarely found their way into Medical Billing and Coding, because the degree didn't actually give them the certifications needed to actually obtain a job in the field. Much less the real world experience a lot of employers asked for.

@elizabethv According to what I just read about the University of Phoenix, it has been embroiled in a number of controversies since its founding in the '70s. One of the investigations did center on its marketing. I think it's mainly for online courses. It's sad and unconsciouable that the university basically duped those people.
