Communications service providers (CSPs) are keenly aware that they need to create new digital ecosystems in order to keep up with both current and future applications and services, but in order to do so they are in the process of reinventing how they work with their vendor partners.
To gauge where CSPs were on their respective ecosystem transformations, Heavy Reading , in collaboration with Huawei Technologies Co. Ltd. , wrote a report that included a survey that went out to Light Reading's global list of CSP registrants.
The survey found that most of the CSPs were less than satisfied with their telecom domain ecosystem partners and IT domain partners.
Due to those shortcomings, most of the CSPs (70%) are planning to take on a more active role in the ecosystem transformation process while only 20% indicated they would continue to rely solely on their vendors’ vision.
Going one-step further, some CSPs are not only becoming more involved in their ecosystem transformations, they are also actively making strategic acquisitions in order to create internal software labs. According to the report, 12% of the respondents said they had already implemented this model, while 11% planned to. Among the respondents that were undecided, 51% replied "maybe" to using this approach while 26% disagreed entirely.
