@Ariella, I think deal gets Riverbed into SD-WAN faster. They had a ton of succes with WAN in the past, but were kind of slow on the SD-WAN uptake.

So where in the Hype Cycle are we now?
Call me back when the "trough of disillusionment" is over, please. :)

Re: Riverbed
@Mike do you think that's a smart move? Or does it represent too much expansion from one company?

Re: SD-WAN
@anusahv thanks for the insight and the tip. I've never tried getting a report with a price tag on it that way. Good to know of the extended access possibilities.

You always need that sprinkling of "analyst magic" to account for the rise in numbers. I guess that's their version of secret sauce.

Re: SD-WAN
@Ariella, Ive read the Gartner market guide as we have a subscription. The 30% spend is stated as a "strategic planning assumption", so the evidence is not presented in the document. But in my understanding, it is based on Gartner receiving enquiries from enterprises. Also some "analyst magic" in forecasting how much they are willing to spend in SD-WAN.

If you are interested, you can get a free copy from one of the vendors. Google it!

Re: SD-WAN
@MIke yes, a trace of the source of  Gartner Inc. - Market Guide for Software-Defined WAN, December 1, 2015 resulted this: https://www.gartner.com/doc/3173719/market-guide-softwaredefined-wan. Unfortunately, I won't be reading that report because it costs $1,295. I would have been interested in seeing how Gartner justifies such a huge jump.

SD-WAN
Lots of headroom for growth. Gartner estimates that by the end of 2019, 30 percent of enterprises will use SD-WAN products in all their branches, up from less than 1 percent.
