Re: What are data caps like in Africa?
Africa is an emerging market so that are going to be lot of hurdles. They first have to build a strong infrastructure and then build on top of that to introduce the various platforms for telcom. This will be a lengthy process and will have to comppleted in phases. But, this is exciting news for Africa Telecom.

@gzibi  interesting to know, thanks for sharing... but everything does take time... and in Africa many hurdles in place... as it not an easy place to do things there... as even simple permit could take months....

Re: The furture
@dchampagne70  interesting point as no one knows what future brings... as this days you never know... 5 years ago no one expect Russia will be fighting with Ukraine... in the middle of "stable Europe"...

The furture
My coment is about what wi be happening in the future?  The concerns would be with more stable political and economic environments and the unleashing of market forces, SSA will reap the benefits of two megatrends:

1) The growing demand for natural resources,

2) increasing consumer spending by an expanding middle class.

Re: What are data caps like in Africa?
Metered data is definitely part of the solution. For the most part, African mobile data is largely sold on a metered basis already (as is voice, incidentally), so that's a starting point to fixing the issue. The problem is that it's much cheaper to buy that metered data to make a voice call than it is to buy "metered" voice. So the pricing/business model has to be adjusted a bit so that it doesn't really matter what people do with the data, so long as they're paying for that data. That's where things are moving, though perhaps not fast enough.

What are data caps like in Africa?
Isn't metered data the usual solution for the problem of subscribers using "too much" data in a unprofitable way?

african mobile operator
I think that that african operator has too many things going on that causing some negative things to happen in it because of OTT. I think the the OTT does not need to be in there so thing can better in a way.
