Re: smart home vs smart phones
Yes good points.

I'm a current Comcast customer and the prices just seem to get higher and higher with less and less available. It had me thinking a couple of times that I should really change to a less expensive option.

I really think Comcast should start listening to the consumers instead of just raising the bills higher and higher. It's becoming ridiculous.

The concept of smart houses seem a bit scary to me still only because we all know how smart phones have truly affected people's lives and their day to day routine.

@batye:  The key players are on a massive infrastructure build--no question.     They're trying to keep up with the increased bandwidth requirements--no question.     As for saving money, the evolution of technology will take care of itself.

Re: smart home vs smart phones
@freehe I do see trend in North America - this days each big or small Co. trying to save money... keep forgeting about security... sad reality of trying to watch bottom line... overlooking everything else...

Re: smart home vs smart phones
Writerfo10281, Unfortunately it's nationwide. Phone lines are jammed, social media profiles are flooded and no update when the problem will be resolved.

Re: home automation & security
@dlr5288  I love technology...and love the idea of a SmartHome...but I agree, it does seem like it could get a little scary (I've seen too many movies, I guess)...that's a lot of information out there, in the cloud...and once we start letting our homes do all the work (i.e. get smarter), it seems we all might get...well, we might become a little less smart?

Re: smart home vs smart phones
I agree, freehe, as a former Comcast customer it seems like service just keeps declining as prices keep rising (which is why we are no longer customers). And, like you said, most companies do nothing about security until there is a problem. And that is a problem.

Re: smart home vs smart phones
Absolutely, There are no doubts about security requirement.

As DHagar stated in her comment 'Managing Security and Privacy' is the key challenge in this case. We are still not there 100%. But industry is positively evolving in that space. I believe enterprises at a global level are prioritizing security at the top. Until there is a proven model, average consuler wouldn't jump into any advanced smart features that are correlated with security anytime soon.
