Re: The Cloud
@dlr5288  I could not agree more... as security of storadge/data never a simple or easy task...  for me it never safe or 100% secure...

Re: The Cloud
Yeah great point. Storage is important, but it's also about the consumer feeling safe with their information and being able to have privacy. If only there was a way to wake the cloud more secure.

I know that the cloud is safer now than it was in the past, but there's always that chance that someone might be able to hack in or information might get out. It's obviously a huge issue with the cloud.

I think that security and storage are both huge important factors and shouldn't be overlooked.

Re: The Cloud
Yes that's true. It's a constant back and forth between security and keeping up. I think for the most part companies are willing to take the risk of security simply because they don't have a choice.

They had to incorpoarte the cloud because they need to compete with everyone and the cloud is the newest thing right now. Even though security is a huge issue still among the cloud. It's a risk that has to be taken.

@ms.a: Personally, it has been my experience that the "average consumer" is very adaptable.  You simply tell them how it's going to be, and if they want your service or product enough, you have their business.  This is why social networks like Facebook continue to dominate despite privacy concerns.

Re: The Cloud
@ms.a: Sure, but what's more secure?  Your local datacenter guarded by a rentacop, or datacenter owned by IBM, Amazon, or Microsoft that's likely guarded by armed guards with the very best in equipment and training?  ;)

Re: The Cloud
That's so funny to me.  Not once have I had a storage issue on any of my devices in the past 10+ years.

But then it's not like I have much for audio or video files (absent some games).

Re: The Cloud
@Joe. S:

You are absolutely right. I don't see any concerns around storage capacity for cloud. Rather there is a big concern with security aspect of data.

Re: The Cloud
Yes, that is a big dilema. It is very refreshing and exciting to hear about all techonological advancements. When it comes to reality, how comfortable an average consumer is in terms of adapting that? When it comes to Cloud, it is a constant back and forth thinking about how secure information is. But not exactly sure what is required for customers to make them feel and ensure that their information is safe.

Re: The Cloud
Yes 100%! Security is important, but the storage is becoming smaller and smaller. The consumers will want the cloud to contain enough storage. I can talk from personal experience that storage is a big issue because some of my devices run out of storage so quickly it amazes me.

But you're right. They don't seem to be so concerned with storage as they should be. Security is obviously important, but if the storage is low what's the point?

Re: data centers?
@vnewman: Interesting.  I've seen more social research that shows the exact opposite: That our need to be consistent -- particularly with our commitments (and especially if those commitments have been written down and/or publicized) -- drives us quite powerfully to do what we say we will do.
