Re: Either Way Possible
Bringing people together is always a good thing to continue the transformation process.  I would even go out on a limp to suggest that such more "closed" social ecosystems can be a precursor of things to come--Slack is what I was thinking of.

Re: Either Way Possible
Speaking of ATT's survival - it seems they are trying to cut Google Fiber off at the pass in Louisville, KY where AT&T just filed a lawsuit against the local government.

They are suing over a new city law, which was passed this month, that "makes it easier for Internet providers to string their lines on utility poles. The law lets companies such as Google Fiber move other providers' equipment on the pole, in order to make room for their own."

AT&T claims the city government has no authority to write such a law.  It will be interesting to see how this all plays out.

Re: Either Way Possible
@mpouraryan - I hear you - there is still some work to do for the App writers at Nextdoor.  They are on the right track, although I shudder to think what else they are doing with the information they have on me.  But for now, I do like getting the updates on what's happening - especially when I am away.  Over Christmas break, we were travelling to see family in another state and the house 3 doors down from us burned down!  I was glad to get the information in real time instead of driving past it after flying home and wondering, "what the heck happened??"

What you noted is one word: Empowerment--and it is fun to be empowered.   Although the dark side continues to persist and it is up to us to continue to harness this in a way that would do right to all.

First of, I am extremely Humbled...thank you!!   I look forward to the continued opportunity and privilege to serve and engage with my distinguished friends here "in community".

As for your particular thoughts @vmnumean, I am a NextDoor User and two communities have recently rolled it out--it has its' pluses and minuses.  For instance, I don't get half the notifications on one of the communities--pitfalls of tech as our march onward to transformation continues.

Re: Either Way Possible
The nice thing about maintaining strong social media presences on multiple networks is that it's great for your SEO -- and, in turn, in general, your reputation management.  The more information out there that you control about yourself, the less likely it is for negative stuff -- when and if it comes up -- to stay very searchable for long.
