Re: Fathers Video Bundle
It seems to make sense that an a la carte model would be more expensive for consumers. At the same time customers might be willing to pay a little more for programming they would watch in its entirety. Rather than losing out on a channel they really want, because it doesn't make sense to upgrade to a better package for one channel. Or even more bundle options in the same price range. Instead of just the one option that is the only one you can afford and you just take the channels they give you.

counting subs
Smart of Greenfield to look at sub counts from the programmer's POV. They do keep charging more for content. The bundle hides what a customer is willing to pay for specific channels, but should be no surprise that lower demand generally goes with higher price. (Nice to see your byline, Jennifer!)

Speaking as a cord-cutter, these changes definitely don't give me any incentive to change!

Re: Fathers Video Bundle
That's great! Finally, customer-friendly bundles! It sound as if they've listened to us and are redesigning based upon our needs.

This is great news for the future. You're right, it's so much more relevant to what we all want/need/use.

Re: Fathers Video Bundle
The skinny bundle will certainly help. There is too much good content now from over-the-top services. To stay relevant, programmers and operators will need to think about creative ways to package content. I think Kimmelman is correct that the bundle will evolve to include things like traditional video, OTT, gaming, maybe cloud storage, and new services. The speakers didn't see the industry moving to an a la carte model, saying that would be too expensive for consumers.

Re: Fathers Video Bundle
It is definitely very frustrating that consumers have no choice about what broadband service to use. And really, it doesn't benefit the customer. Because they don't have to worry about customer service - what are you going to do, go somewhere else? Most cable bundles, to me, have always seemed inconvenient to say the least. Almost every time there was one channel missing that I really wanted from the bundle I could afford. So I either had to go without, or choose to pay more. (I went without.) And instead, I received a hoard of infomercial channels. I did like the option I had on Dish Network, where they had smaller add-on type bundles, that allowed you to get for instance, the "Family Bundle" for an additional $8 a month, and it only included a few channels that fit into your preference - without adding another hoard of infomercial channels.

Do you really think this will save people from just cutting the cord though?
