Re: Accessible Innovation
Yeah for me, I like having neighbors! As long as they're not too crazy or too close..

I am not a fan of smart technology for my home. I don't want to be notified that my laundry is done because I still have to walk to the basement to get the clothes out of the washer and put them in the dryer. Now when you get something that can do that for me let me know.

Bartolomeo Provides Insight on Verizon's IoT Platform
This is a great plan for the LoT platform with the technology these days it will be a big hit in the near future. I also think that it will be great to probley comnpine with other specs of technology to become one and grow faster than ither companys.

Re: Accessible Innovation
Good point! Personally, I don't mind my neighbors (we're all quite chummy - though no pool...or screaming kids) - I just get lazy and don't want to walk to the laundry room the extra couple of times :)

Re: Technology and Healthcare
Even more so, with natural language processing and big data, your medical record can be a compiled narrative of all your records, rather than just a set of records your doctor has to assemble (probably at your autopsy as they're apt to be too busy before that).  Rather than several reports each from your kidney specialist, endocrinologist, cardiologist, etc. the doctor can just look at what the compiler wrote: "He's fat, he's pre-diabetic, his blood pressure swings wildly, and he has a high probability of reacting badly to these four drugs."  We just have to hope it won't also say "He tends to put off paying his bills and is sometimes rude to medical personnel."

Re: Accessible Innovation
You could also avoid swimming when the pool is full of screaming children, or check to see if the rec room piano or pool table was in use, etc. The one problem with all that might be loneliness: part of the experience of having neighbors is having involuntary company. If you never have to be around people you weren't planning to be around, you might as well live in a simulation.

I love the use-case example of the multi-unit dwelling's resources.

Personally, I'd love to be able to tell if my laundry is done without walking to the laundry room!

Technology and Healthcare
I am all for technology getting into the healthcare system and working to make it a more efficient machine. Right now there is almost no communication between various doctors, unless they specifically ask for your medical records. And even then, your medical records are only going to be the records that doctor has, not a conglomeration of all of the medical records you have ever had in your life. And we already know we have the technology to hold, store and deliver that kind of information on every patient. That means, if you lived in Utah and traveled to Indiana where you had an emergency and went to the hospital, the possiblty would be very real that the hospital in Indiana could pull up your complete medical history. Or, like the example mentioned in the article, the ability to monitor the location of medications, eventually down to the specific unit and pharmacy it is being sold at. The possibility of using technology in healthcare is endless; and I am glad it is in Verizon's horizon. (rhyme not intended.)

Do you think there are other global concerns that Verizon might be able to benefit with the use of IoT?

Sustainability is ecological and economic
Probably this will be covered more in the second part of the interview, but it seems to me there's an important interaction between the "more sustainable"/Green uses of a generalized IoT platform, and the business side (which I guess is a different sort of green). As society becomes less and less willing to put up with private enterprises that externalize environmental costs and ignore them afterwards, in proactive self-defense business has to manage them (either individually or collectively -- managing it can include having a government  agency collect data and keep enterprises from cheating to gain a competitive advantage).  You can't manage what you can't see, and a broad-based IoT platform is a flexible and extensible way of enabling users to see whatever they need to see. That means in turn that in our more consciously-interconnected, eco-oriented world, a common IoT environment with a shared set of developer tools is going to increase in value rapidly, which is pretty much the definition of business sustainability.
