New NFV Interop Lab
This is great that companies are starting to use interops labs again. They really did provide a huge benefit. It helps companies find issues quickly, reach goals quicker, get valuable feedback from vendors, partners and users; improve efficiency and improve the quality of products and services as a faster rate.

IMS claims to have a state-of-the-art lab http://www.imsav.com/about-ims/interoperability-lab/

Re: Interop is hot again
CableLabs set up the NFV Interop Lab through its for profit Kyrio subsidary. Interops have long been a staple of CableLabs, but the fact that it's for profit is a new angle.

Interop is hot again
Interop is back! I feel like we went into a slump for a few years were interop went by the wayside as an interesting topic but with SDN and NFV and the transformation of the network into a more diverse, vendor agnostic network, interop is really taking the front and center stage again.

... and yet vision matters too
The other thing that's striking about Don Clarke's modest, brief discussion of things is that the SDN/NFV linkup/fusion is played with such understatement -- changing network topologies in real time -- when it's nearly as big a change as having networks at all.  That convergence drastically lowers the risks, and therefore the costs, of extending and improving the global network, because in effect it means that there's (almost) no such thing as a stranded or misplaced server or line anymore, only one that hasn't yet been fully exploited; if you build a bridge to nowhere, you just reroute traffic so that they go via nowhere, and the bridge remains valuable. Furthermore, the system as a whole can respond far more rapidly to fast-emerging new demands (and the whole history of the industry is one of responding to fast-emerging new demands).

Such a series of biztech explosions wrapped up in one moderately technical phrase.

God and the Devil and almost everything else are in the details
A nice demonstration that behind and under all the revolutions and transformations, the essence of machine communication is getting machines to play nice with each other, and that's a tiny, fiddling job for large minds -- and a large mind that can do tiny fiddling is as rare as an elephant that tapdances well.  Thanks for picking such an interesting interview subject, Mike!
