Mining Big Data
The emphasis on big data is always how it will benefit companies to generate more revenue but how will big data help consumers, I mean really help them. Features like suggestions or recommendations are not a benefit to customers, they are just nice to have. Customers want to get faster service and more features but at the core how will big data benefit customers and make their lives easier and/or better.

Re: Data Mining
I also think data minin makes our lives so much easier. I mean people always want things super quickly and data mining is obviously very important when it comes to saving the consumers time.

Re: Data Mining
@clrmoney, good example of data mining processes that enhance existing operations or provide new alerts as to where more information is needed.

Re: Will Big Data Bring Big Changes
@JohnBarnes, that makes great sense and is an excellent perspective.

As I see it, the next evolution (i.e., transformation), is developing the systems and capabilities to actually change decisions so that there are functional changes that directly affect the operations in new ways.

Data Mining
We use data mining for almost everthing to filter out certain things need and wants for data that can be useful for us. This is very necessary for use to have data ming in our everyday lives.

Re: Will Big Data Bring Big Changes
DMHagar, that's the first-order early application of big data, and it's often the one that pays for moving into it. The step beyond is that big data can often help you locate markets (or potential markets) that no one knew were there; you need a map before you can see where the edge of the world is.

Companies get into big data for better functionality, which is delivered by giving everyone a transparent map of where they are.  But once they know where they are, they can see much more of where they could be or might want to be.

Re: Will Big Data Bring Big Changes
@afwriter, great question - which mirrors the question with all big data - how does it change operations?  My experience is that when you mine and provide usable data to the operations people, the data can become a key tool and it becomes part of the decision making domain of the functional managers.  So to your point about the great infographic, I would think the highest initial impact may be the network operations and the ability to both channel resources to keep opex and capex costs in control, while optimizing the service/value pricing for the customers.

It probably will require time and, as with everything transformation, but I believe it is the next wave of change.

Will Big Data Bring Big Changes
When I first read this I was ready to argue that big data would be pointless in this instance, but by the time I got to the infographic my tune had changed.  Now my question is:  If they manage to harness big data will it bring big changes?  And; will those changes be for the good of the company or the consumers?
