Set Top Box Sector
This is interesting. Will the set top box sector still be viable in the next few years? Many customers are opting to stream content - tv  and video so it makes sense that the demand for set top boxes has declined. But do set top box companies really believe companies want to pay more for a set top box or upgrade to a new one that costs more? I certainly don't.

The set top box changes must benefit the customers directly, how will it make their viewing experience better without drastically increasing costs to the customer. This is key to retaining to customers however they will not attract any new customers with the set top boxes upgrades so any increases in sales may be offset by customers switching to another company.

Top Box
I think this is great news for Top Box that their revenue will be increased from growth of amny years of other things that got it to where it is now.

Re: wow, wow, wow
4K has been an opportunity for set top box companies to sell more units. Overall though, I imagine this is a sector that will continue to see significant declines over time. The technology exists and is cheap enough that these units are not really needed.

Re: wow, wow, wow
I'm not sold yet, I don't think that 4k is a big enough deal to drop thousands on new TVs and set top boxes; not to mention the fact that as soon as we all pay for 4k they will come up with holographic TV or something.

Re: wow, wow, wow
The only thing is company like Samsung and Sony are building app's so their customer can use for streaming and they are no more need for a set-top box. We can stream in 4k with Netflix and Hulu and with the HBO on the go you have 4k tv programing and no need for an extra bill for a stb.

I guess this means consumers will be upgrading existing set-top boxes or buying new ones for the first time this year? I had no idea I planned to upgrade this year ;)
