@John lowering that barrier can do alot for the industry. This seems to be a unique aproach.

This really erodes the academic/commercial barrier, too...
... and that erosion is to everyone's benefit. Students work on real stuff from the git-go; commercial developers don't get to just build, but have to do some explaining at every stage. Given how high the academic/commercial barrier has traditionally been in Continental Europe, the Swiss are getting a huge advantage here.

This is really a tangent - when I was a kid, I didn't realize there was a difference between the NBA and college teams and wondered what was going to happen to the teams when Patrick Ewing and Larry Bird graduated!

And better still, where the best students don't "graduate" and take off; they keep coming back to play at a higher level with more people. Yes, it sounds like a really cool place to work/study/create.

That's really cool - it reminds me of some of the shared hackerspaces we have here. It's kind of like an "industrial arts" room for grown-ups with way more fun tools to use!
