Swisscom Open Digital Lab
This is amazing. Hands on experience without sititing in long boring college classroom lectures. Although I believe students need to understand the theory of various topics. For those who don't want to attend college this is a great option and will save them money on student loans.

The U.S. need to open these type of labs nationwide. This would help the U.S. to regain command as a technology leader and help ensure more students in the STEM fields.

Re: Interesting Intiative
@elizabethv:

Good to know that. It is very certain that we will reach places in relatively short span with all these compelling evolutions and all of us will only wonder how fast things we have known will soon be considered thing of past. So we are always playing a catch up game.

Re: Swiss Hackerspace
I agree! That's also why I'm a fan of open source projects - particularly ones with solid, supportive communities that are "novice-friendly". It not only gives others the opportunity to benefit from the technology, it turns the whole world into a potential "think tank"; so the technology benefits from other's use. It's a shame for innovation to be stagnated by the limitations propriety technology imposes. Especially in areas that can be saving lives or improving our world in general.

Re: Interesting Intiative
@ms.akkineni - not only can you say it - but I hope it's true! It would be wonderful if we could all begin focusing more on these areas, development of them could, would and should, prove most beneficial for our society as a whole.

Re: Swiss Hackerspace
@faryl - What I really love about this idea is the ability for the users to collaborate. My Mom and I were just talking about how a lot of people in the STEM fields struggle with asking for help, they crave propriety and notoriety above all else. I think this is an opportunity for all users to encourage one another and work together to learn and even potentially develop new ideas.

Interesting Intiative
Pretty interesting partnership between the two. Also very impressive intiative to teach students in evolving areas like Cloud, AI, Robotics and IOT. Can i say we should all set our expectations in line?

Key Areas
The areas of focus ranges from artificial intelligence, robotics and the Internet of Things to big data and data storage systems.

Swisscom is spot on in terms of focussing in key areas. They are making sure that they cover all dominant areas.
