Re: Applications are the future
Canada and the US have mostly the same broadband data cap trends. So I think consumers will only see more data caps and usage meter pricing in North America.
But it would certainly be interesting if mobile broadband and wired broadband could compete more directly and eliminate data caps. However, that'll never happen given the oligopoly of service providers.

Re: Applications are the future
Interesting read. This idea of network-as-an-application is something that providers like Orange can really monetize.
I mean, what IT department would not want this functionality? Management would love tools like this.

@batye oh we get something like that too, though usually it's a matter of "the promotional period is over, so your bill will now increase by 40% for the exact same service."

@afwriter good point, but how well did they test this technology... I hope customers do not have to act as beta testers...

Re: Applications are the future
I wonder when the trends of network as a service will filter down even further so that almost anyone could configure their own bandwidth requirements on demand. It'll be interesting to see how data caps might go away -- or be extended into all broadband.

Applications are the future
I like how they didnt mess around and went straight for customers using applications. Its less messy and everyone knows how to do it. I wonder how much of a learning curve this is going to take and what kind of businesses are going to adopt it first.
