Re: Singtel 4G
> "I'm not sure if you heard about the driver of the Tesla that was killed in Florida."

Sure did... Tesla really needs to re-name its Autopilot feature because the name gives a false impression of how good it's supposed to be. There are several levels of autonomous driiving, and Tesla is at level 2. Level 4 or 5 is where Tesla would need to be before it should call its Autopilot feature autonomous in the way that most people interpret that name.

Re: Singtel 4G
@mhhf1ve - even autonomous driving doesn't truly solve the problem. I'm not sure if you heard about the driver of the Tesla that was killed in Florida. Tesla allows for autonomous driving, but "driver" has to "sign" an agreement that they will remain ready to take control of the car at a moment's notice, should there be any issues. In this instance, a semi ran a red light during sunset hours I believe. So the company thinks the white of the truck, combined with glare from the sun, kept the cars computer from realizing the truck was there. The brakes were never applied, by the car itself, or the driver. Which leads you to believe the driver never even knew it was happening - if I were to hazard a guess, I would bet he was looking at his phone. No one will ever really know what happened, but in situations like that, even if your car is driving, it's probably best to be aware of the road and potential hazards around you. I had a previous boss that used to tell us all the time that the computer was only as smart as we made it.

Re: 4G to Launch Streaming Video
You make excellent points!

I also think it's super important for them to come out with safety pointers for consumers. Especially the one you mentioned about the driving and being on a cell phone or other device.

4G to Launch Streaming Video
It is great that telcom companies are providing tons of features for smartphones users but no one has said anything about safety.

Where are the safety commercials from telco companies that warn users of driving laws when using smartphones, accidents that can occur, impaired visibility, distractions, etc. all from watching streaming video, texting or placing a phone call.

I would like to see more safety promotions from telco companies about responsible use of smartphones like liquor companies do for responsible drinking and driving.

I agree 4G is a great path to take to launch streaming video. I wasn't a fan or video initially but love watching videos especially on YouTube. Streaming video is a huge growing trend and companies must employ technologies to remain competitive.

@mhhf1ve good point! These advances that promise better experiences on commutes also pose a serious threat when they tempt people to try to ease their boredom even while driving.

Re: Singtel 4G
Part of transformation requires to be brought "down to earth".    It is, unfortunately, a sign of the times.    However, I still think we can change it to infuse a sense of humanity and common sense into this.

Am I wrong?  I wonder.

@mpouraryan - I think it has to do with people's obession with multi-tasking.  They can't just "be" anymore.  They always have to be doing something.  And in the car, one of the only other somethings you can easily do is be on your phone watching videos and texting.  Or eating, putting on makeup, or like my father-in-law used to do, read the paper.
