Upstream capacity is more of an immediate problem, as there's usually more bandwidth built-in for downstream traffic in a network than there is for upstream.

Absolutely, and i am sure Facebook and other companies that are racing into social video are thinking about this problem.

Can you give an idea that in terms of load on operatos networks, what is the percentage of live streaming video versus  social media video.

I think this is referring to trends around the nature of the type of content social media users are sharing & consuming. If more users are gravitating more towards video as ways to communicate, share, and recieve information, it's in Facebook's best interest to - at minimum - have the technology that's robust enough to handle it from a data perspective. But since Facebook's goal seems to be becoming/remaining users' "one stop shop" for creating/sharing/consuming content, it makes sense for them to want to be the ones providing the technology to create/share/consume rather than risk users gravitating towards an outside app.

I thought the video area was already with computersnad smartphones so maybe they are trying to take it to a more advanced  level so we'll see.
