Re: IBC Show
@dcawrey - good point. It's certainly generating a lot of excitement. But there's also some wariness resulting from the lessons learned from 3D TV which never really took off. VR raises similar questions: what kind of content is it suited to? How is it best utilized in the storytelling process? Will consumers buy the headsets?

Re: IBC Show
I think media is salivating at the idea of making money off of VR. The industry is struggling somewhat with the generational change that has eyeballs moving away from traditional cable systems.

Business trails technology
Interesting comment from Mike Crimp about the Content Everywhere track being more focused on business issues rather than technology. It's been my sense that is usually the case. Of course the technology has to be invented and proven before a business case can be made for it, but often it seems that a technology develops, then sits around for a couple of years while licensing and business models are developed. I wonder if its just a video or media industry issue, because content rights are a such a major element of any new service; or whether it affects other industries as well.

Re: Amazing
@afwriter - Glad you said that. One of the really cool aspects of attending shows like this is that you get to see the technology and experience it. It kind of reminds you of how far things have evolved. I remember having to spend nights in linear editing suites working on 3/4 inch tapes, and now you can do that in about an hour -- with no prep, on a laptop. We had 1 GB storage on the entire network when I first worked with non-linear editing, and now a good laptop will give you a TB. Sometimes I think we forget that, at least I do. Tend to just focus on the business issues and the technology stuff on a day-to-day basis.

Amazing
What an amazing industry to be in.  I get goosebumps when I read about all of these advancements that we have to look forward.  Obviously I am not the only one with the huge turnout that IBC had.
