Re: prophecy
Haha, yes I was going to say! It probably has something to do with the fact being that the two candidates are jokes! Makes for good entertainment I guess.

Re: prophecy
I'm fascinated that people from around the world watched the presidential debates. It would never occur to me to watch another country's debates. (Though this election is a trainwreck that's probably fun to watch if you don't have to live with the results!)

Re: prophecy
Agreed. Sometimes I think people get wrapped up in this bubble and don't realize how many people are actually watching from around the world.

Yes, I love that too! I think it's important for TV audiences to feel like a community sometimes. It's a cool feeling.

IBC 2016 What DO TV Audiences Want

Consumers love the flexibility of being able to watch content whenever we want, and not be constrained by schedules. I wish TIVO was still available.

Live TV is only needed for a few content providers such as news and sports and special events such as election dates, etc.

I don't believe TV viewing is communal, how are they tracking this metric. Due to work and school schedules and people multi-tasking including myself I believe TV viewing is less communal.

It is unfortunate that the smaller channels are being eroded, the smaller companies are get forced out.

Viewing content on demand is a great feature but viewing original content when it is aired is also desirable.

Re: prophecy
@Adi - Right on.  I personally think the game changer will be the all-in-one streaming TV.  Yes, I know there are devices that you can hook up to the tv that are relatively easy to use (well for most depending on your technical ability level), but they are neither seamless nor completely intuitive to most people to setup and navagate.  I'm talking no extra remote, no box, no "stick," no toggling back and forth b/t TV and the streaming device, etc.

From a user experience standpoint I liken it to the Tootsie Pop test: "how many clicks does it take?"

If the answer is 3, it needs to be 1.  One click. I like the Roku - it's close - but it's still a whole other remote/device and you can't control the volume from it either.  Result?  Too many clicks/steps.

Re: prophecy
@vnewman - BBc's Bunker said the same thing - that TV viewing is still communal, and that's a very linear, live broadcast kind of usage scenario.

Re: prophecy
@faryl - EXACTLY!  There's a certain level of comradery that goes along with tuning into something as it is happening.  Perhaps it taps into the collective unconscious (Jung) at some basic level.

Re: prophecy
I also love the experience of watching some shows at the same time everyone else is tuned in. There's something about the experience of watching - for example - The Doctor Who Anniversary special at the same time fans around the world are seeing it for the first time too.
