Re: telco regulations...
I agree. I think that's what makes them stand out from the rest and be able to be successful.

It will be fascinating to be witness to it all--and to be able to reflect upon and learn from it no doubt.

Re: telco regulations...
@mpouraryan, clearly that is the challenge for their leadership.  If they continue to research and develop, as they have done, at least they are on the right track.  Leadership will determine if they choose to stay there.

Re: telco regulations...
@John Barnes, great analysis.  But at least they are in the game and this represents a new opportunity to minimally build new services, if not develop new models.  It is encouraging.

They have been transformational because they have been prepared--the question is whether they are becoming too big for their own good.

Re: telco regulations...
mhhf1ve,

I'm actually a little impressed that there's so much motion and effort coming out of a sector that had been quiet to the point of stagnant for so long. The big and medium telcos are all pretty serious about not just reacting to the change but getting out there and leading it.  That isn't historically the pattern when a long-in-place, heavily infrastructure-invested industry is disrupted.

Of course, whether they turn out to be good at what they are trying to do is another question that only time will answer -- but it's not going to be much time.

Re: telco regulations...
@mpouraryan, I see Google as very successful as well, that is why I think they may truly succeed.  But I see their "surprises" as very well planned and linked carefully to strategic positioning.  I don't think they leave much to "chance".

They practice - luck is preparation for opportunity.

Re: telco regulations...
What we must remember is this:  @Google success has depended on the ability to be on the edge and unpredictable at times--so I would not hold that against them.

Re: telco regulations...
@mpouraryan, absolutely - I fully agree.  And to your point, Google is not always transparent on their plans, so it may be part of their strategic/tactical planning, but we may not know until we see what they unveil.
