To speak of the last-place ranking of the BSS/OSS selection and that Ewert Q&A linked to in the piece, it's important to note that even Ewert himself alluded to overhyping the problems of legacy BSS/OSS systems.  Ewert took care to note that, to him/Level 3, "legacy" for BSS/OSS is/should be defined as "ten years or more".  Not many evangelists are so strict.

The move away from proprietary is indeed a big deal. We're going to see a lot more interoperability when it comes to networking with SDN. I know there are some diehards that don't want to see that happen, but it's going to improve things overall.

I think why those two were tire because they are important factors when it comes to software and hardware and new techology thats coming out and the other one provides the services etc.
