Re: BT sports Discussion
Haha yes so true! It's crazy how fast everything changes. It seems that consumers need to have everything bigger and faster than before.

@Adi: Hah.  In my house, we didn't upgrade TVs often...and when we did, it usually just meant an additional room with a TV.  We even had a tiny little kitchen TV for a while.

Re: BT sports Discussion
@dcawrey - if I remember correctly US homes used buy a new TV on average every four years. That used to mean that TV's got 'demoted' every four years -- the living room TV moved to the parents bedroom, their TV moved to the older kids room, etc. And one TV -- the oldest one -- got pushed out. So each new TV would last about 10 years based on this formula. I suspect people are buying and replacing more quickly now. But even with prices falling rapidly, there is a considerable cost attached.

Re: BT sports Discussion
UHD is just another technology upgrade. I remember when we used to think 40 inch televisions were big. Now I'm hearing UHD requires 55 inches!

Not opposed to that idea, but it's just another upgrade. Something to think about.

Re: 3D and UHD
@mike - Yes, 3D was spoken about in hushed tones at IBC this year. It's almost a dirty word now. But ESPN did have a lot of success with its HD launch, and I think it did actually push the industry along when it was launched. But there do seem to be some shifts even in sports viewing this year, as I discussed in my latest post. It may not have quite the same impact as in the past.

Re: 3D and UHD
I recall the big push by ESPN with 3D that fizzled, but I agree about sports driving UHD adoption.

3D and UHD
When they were trying to push 3D TVs they tried to use sports as a selling point, but the idea never really made sense.  When it comes to UHD I could see millions of Americans switching to UHD to be able to see the action clearer.  I am willing to bet that there will be an uptick in sales around the Super Bowl.

Sports is a billion dollar industry and we watch tv with UHD with flat screen tvs so of course they would have more features than regular tvs etc.
