Re: 4K Rising
Exactly! It's something new and consumers will love that they're doing something new and different and will likely try out interesting things.

Re: HDR is coming...
@Adi, that is definitely a good point. It is difficult for consumers when the industry pushes multiple technologies at the same time, UDH and 4K. If you an early adopter it can be difficult to decide which one to buy. If you are an investor it is also difficult to decide which one to invest in. Only time will tell, consumers can be fickle sometimes.

Re: Early adopters and the long view
@afwriter, I agree, 4K sets are still not in demand. Out of all the water cooler conversations at work no one has ever said they bought or want to buy a 4K set.

HDR is coming...
some questions remain on the next-gen of HDR and other functions such as higher frame rate and wide color gamut. I wonder if they are introduced in 2017, if there will be a bit of a backlash from consumers who are buying UHD sets today.

Re: Early adopters and the long view
@afwriter - I think we'll also see fewer and fewer HDTV's left on retail shelves. Both manufacturers and retailers benefit from focusing on UHD now. We saw that with HDTV -- within a couple of years standard definition TVs almost disappeared. It was genuinely difficult to get a SD TV. Reasonably confident that this will be the last christmas for HDTVs. By next holiday season, all you'll be able to get at major electronics outlets will be UHD.

Early adopters and the long view
I have a feeling that there are two kinds of people driving these numbers right now.  Early adopters want the best of what's out there even though there and people who are being forced to buy new TVs are taking the long view and purchasing 4K TVs as an investment in the future.

4K Rising
I'm not surprise that the new HD 4K TVs are popular and more people want the new styles tv which means more money for the companies that has something new to offer.
