Re: Another small step toward the slippery slope
Good points and I agree! When it comes down to it costumers are going to do what's easier for them.

A valid point is made in the article, depsite being the same price, for HBO through Amazon, as HBO Go, you're only making one payment. You would also only need the 1 app on your phone. Also, as someone who doesn't have HBO Go, I can't speak to this, but I know with Amazon shows you can download the content before hand, meaning you don't have to deal with lag and buffering when you're finally ready to watch your shows. Though it's interesting that it's mentioning older seasons of Game of Thrones available on Amazon now, they've been available for some time. That's how I started watching the show. I can see how the venture will be profitable for both Amazon and HBO, as they will both be able to use the setup to increase their customer base. Well thought out business plan.

That is a key point. There are a bunch of video apps starting to offer movies that Netflix has already stopped offering -- but the crazy diversity of apps and (in)compatibility creates a barrier for consumers to actually want to subscribe to them. Aggregators make it easier and more convenient for users to keep track of subscriptions.

Re: Another small step toward the slippery slope
@batye - yes, it seems to be HBO's strategy to be everywhere -- on their own app, on pay-TV provider's TV Everywhere apps, and now on Amazon. In the UK and some other European countries, they have a partnership with Sky, and are part of their OTT entertainment service (and also have a co-programmed linear TV channel with Sky). So it's all very open -- present in all places, no attempt to develop an exclusive channel strategy.

Re: Another small step toward the slippery slope
@afwriter I agree -- I hoped for a much better price for add-on channels with Prime. Many are a dollar or two less on Prime compared to buying elsewhere (Roku, Hulu or the like). I like the ability to watch cable content like this, but not the pricing.
