Re: ThingSpace - Smart Communities
@dcawrey, that would be a smart move on the part of Verizon!  Let us know if you follow through - interested in your further assessment.

Re: ThingSpace - Smart Communities
ThingSpace sounds really interesting.

I want to know when Verizon is going to have a meetup to show this stuff off in Palo Alto! I might be interested in checking "things" out...

Re: ThingSpace - Smart Communities
@Ariella, absolutely - very true - which is probably why many who are not yet sold on the enhanced virtual capabilities may actually not truly understand.  The leaders will adapt and then it will be a experiential learn through trial or adoption for those who haven't changed their mindset.

I don't think it will be explainable as much as learn through experience and alternative (ie better) services and packages.

Re: ThingSpace - Smart Communities
@DHagar that's true, though the difference in quality there may be a bit more difficult to convey as it's not something quite as simple as, say, bandwidth or upload speeds.

Re: ThingSpace - Smart Communities
@Ariella, my view is that the differentiators are truly more capability through deliverable functions (ie SDN, NFV, central data fusion, analytics, etc.).  This denotes a true ecosystem in the form of an open platform that delivers new capabilities and shared services that are scalable.  That can also support a DevOps environment - very attractive to developing markets.  This goes beyond the geolocations of telecom operators.

Re: Thingspace IOT etc.
@clrmoney, I am assuming that would contribute to more research and development in new models of cities and communities, as a result of that data to universities.  We are working with analytics and Cal State and Community Colleges throughout California and that is their primary interest.

Re: ThingSpace - Smart Communities
I'm wondering in the end, will the only differentiator for IoT platforms be a function of where the telecom operates, or will there be some other quality at play. All of them seem to be aiming for the same functionality with respect to smart communities as the one ennumerated here:

<all of the different sensors and meters that they're deploying -- into a centralized platform where they can view the data. They can run the analytics on the data. Some of the technologies they will be able to control -- things like parking meters, traffic signals, digital signage and things like that -- they'll be able to control everything through the ThingSpace platform.>

Thingspace IOT etc.
They said more cities are releasing data to universities so lets see how that turns out because we have some new advanced technology to spread.

Re: ThingSpace - Smart Communities
@Joe, excellent article.  This clearly establishes the distinctive elements that will truly advance smart cities.  The platform that Feldman outlines, and the analytics services, will deliver usable information from tech users down to consumers - who will be the drivers, as users of IoT.  The platform that Verizon envisions can certainly establish the lynchpin for cities and collaborative 3rd party connections.
