Re: Missing bubbles and arrows
I agree. And it's awful what is happening. I think sometimes politics get in the way of just basic good human nature.

Well, I think that question might apply to several actions of the govt recently. It's a matter of "getting things done -- quickly" and not necessarily correctly.

Maybe the whole "Fail fast" mantra will be tested to the extreme with our govt over the next few years?

Re: Missing bubbles and arrows
Not every thing has to be, "per se" driven by simply the market--there is also the sense of the public good that all should ascribe to.  The question is then why this is not done?

Re: Missing bubbles and arrows
Thanks for your thoughts--but why were they done without Public Comment?  Why, for instance, lifeline was for all intent and purpose discontinued the interest of "regulation relief"?   There are already procedures in place for this to judge the costs not withstanding the position taken by the current Administration.

Re: Missing bubbles and arrows
Considering, though, that the market solutions for closing the digital divide were non-existent prior to FCC regulations.. it might be tough to see how companies are incentivized to come up with a solution for serving impoverished customers better.

Without a regulation, I think it's reasonable to ask what the motivation for any company would be to... provide a "lifeline" of any kind to customers who are, almost by definition, not actually customers to begin with.

Re: Missing bubbles and arrows
I thought the recent moves by the "new" FCC direction was aiming for 'reducing regulatory barriers' so that companies can innovate without having to abide by outside rules of how to achieve their goals. So taking away subsidies for underserved customers is in that line of thinking. Presumably, it will allow companies to better serve customers by coming up with their own market solutions to the problem of the digital divide.

Re: Missing bubbles and arrows
This was not entirely unexpected--I, for instance, fail to understand why lifeline services was stopped by the new Chair.    This was done without any public comment--and for those why may  not remember, the net neutrality debate during the previous administration had extensive public commentary may I am missing something?

@JohnBarnes Love this "missing bubbles and arrows" concept. I am picturing a Venn diagram in my head. Shouldn't the creator be able to make whatever it is they are hawking comprehensible to the marketers?

Re: Missing bubbles and arrows
@mpouraryan Well this is a disturbing set of events. I am just wondering who the other 9 companies are that are being prohibited by the FCC to provide federally subsidized Internet to the poor. This Lifeline program helps people, especially young children whose parents cannot afford high-speed Internet, do their homework, for instance. You have to wonder why this action was taken? I hate to make assumptions, but it sounds political to me.

Re: Missing bubbles and arrows
Happy Monday!!

I wanted to throw this "into the mix" as I join the call to emberace disruption--but what happened over the past week may be just a bit of a detriment to startups who are striving to force the major players to do so:
he FCC is stopping 9 companies from providing federally subsidized Internet to the poor
And it could signal broader restrictions for the program known as Lifeline.
