Yuck!
I am really not a fan of Facebook Live. Period. Most of my friends use it for their MLM businesses. Which I already find annoying enough, but then to bombard my newsfeed with their videos makes it even worse. I'm sure there are some people who want to use it to create their own "television shows" but a fair number of people are always looking for a way to break into fame. So that some would want to go that route doesn't surprise me at all. With the popularlity of reality TV, I could see Facebook TV being right behind. Even if I'm not one of the ones watching it.

Re: Fb user base 192.168.1.1
@mikeroch - I agree that YouTube has quality and even history that people know they can rely on. But a big difference between Facebook and YouTube is the audience. Facebook has built themselves as a social network. So people have a group of friends and likely an app on their phone, to notify those friends once you start up a live video. You can definitely get followers on YouTube, and maybe? (I'm not really sure here) be notified if there's a new video, but people still don't use YouTube the way they use Facebook. So as far as a new social form of communication, I still see Facebook as being on top.

That said, I not only believe, but sincerely hope, Facebook Live is a short-lived novelty. I really don't care for it at all. I find it more annoying than anything.

But doesn't that seem like a setting that could easily be turned off if the user wanted to change it?

Re: Facebook Live Streaming
The new apparent standalone App Facebook is planning for "TV" to apparently tap into the 20 Billion US Advertising market is also a march towards domination--isn't it?   I can't help but wonder where will it end?

Facebook Live Streaming
@Ariella I agree. There is nothing more irritating during those times, such as the middle of the night, when you're trying to be discreet being online, and suddenly a video comes on blasting.

@dcawrey Same here! When I saw FB's announcement about "improving" things with video that will now not only play automatically but play with the sound on, I thought this is not a good move for people like me.

I welcome it because our team at @DailyOutsider utilizes it for its' daily and weekly analysis on on-going evolution in the World--The question is monetization indeed--which is a struggle we've got to deal with at the @DailyOutsider.

@mpouraryan I'm with you - I despise some of these sites for playing video content automatically.

I think from their side, they are in a tough position. They don't have many good ways to monetize readers, so they have to settle with this. It sucks, but we do get a lot of free contnet as a result.

Re: Fb user base 192.168.1.1
Video is an increasingly critical element--every single site one visits (including the news sites especially--which frankly is irritating) automatically has the video clip starting as soon as you go--it may outlive its' usefulness.

I wouldn't discount this type of content. Yes, some of it is really stupid. But that's not going to stop people from viewing. Think of all the reality TV stuff people watch on cable. All of that is just slowly moving over to digital platforms.

Eventually Facebook will just be considered like a TV platform. That's my thinking.
