Re: Tuned Up to 11
I agree! It's still new so not sure exactly where it's going to go, but they do seem to be moving quickly, maybe too quickly?...

Re: Tuned Up to 11
afwriter - I hope so. 3D's demise was unfortunate, if forseeable. VR faces similar challenges but has a better shot at making it.

Certainly being immersed in a 360-degree horror movie would be a powerful experience. You would really need to love the genre though -- VR really can be quite immersive, you really do feel like you are in there.

SK Telecom Targets VR Tech Challenges
SK Telecom appears to be a trailblazer in this type of VR video approach. But could reducing bandwidth requirements by 35 percent affect the quality of the VR experience for viewers, I wonder? If not, then SK Telecom is really onto something, as far as reducing the cost of this technology.

Re: Tuned Up to 11
@Adi I am writing a piece later this week about VR use in a few horror movies coming out. Not that horror movies will define the entire VR industry, but I think this is a great application which will get even more eyes on VR. I think VR will eventually make 3D look like child's play.

Re: Tuned Up to 11
SKT is an innovative company, and applications are a big part of their vision. So in that sense it's not surprising that they are leading the charge. Korea is also one of the best connected, if not the best, countries in the world and a major gaming hub. So there are a few factors helping push things along. It does seem though, that VR will not be going the way of 3D TV -- there seems to be more enthusiasm, energy and investment from larger companies across the video value chain.

Tuned Up to 11
I am sure that there is still a long way to go but this is still such a new technology and it seems like SK is taking it from level 1 to level 5 without any stops in between.

SK Virtual Technology
I like how SK has this new 360 virtual live platform being presented. I think it will be great for customers and business.
