Re: UHDA Video Quality
So true! I know my battery life for my old iPhone was terrible..it would barely last 4-5 hours before I had to plug it in again. I have the iPhone 7 now and the battery is a lot better, but still..

Re: UHDA Video Quality
I think consumers today want a very high techy experience and advanced technology.

Re: UHDA Video Quality
dcawrey - someone tried that back in the very late nineties. They came up with a storyline that had 6-8 key turning points in the plot, and shot a film along a sort of decision tree. Then viewers could vote live at each of those key moments (does she open the door? Or not? Does she dump the boyfriend, or stay with him?) and based on the majority vote, the storyline continued along a certain route.

It flopped badly. People hated it. They just wanted to switch off their minds and get immersed in a story.

Of course, that was a different era, today's teen viewers were not even a salacious gleam at the time. The tech was clunkier and the whole "majority rules" thing was a bit annoying. But still...I'm a bit suspicious of interactivity for long form drama or comedy. I think there even younger audiences want passive, lean-back viewing -- tho I suppose we'll see in the next few years if that's really true.

Re: UHDA Video Quality
It seems to me consumers today want a lot more than just more resolution. People want experiential content experiences. I think we're going to see a melding between regular television series and video games. Maybe shows with multiple outcomes. It would seem to me that might satiate audiences these days.

Isn't that the truth, it feels like the battery has been left behind in the search for bigger and better screens, cameras, processors, etc.

Re: curious quality
Michelle - I think to some extent we are already there, in the sense that we know that UHD has little impact on TV screens less than 55-60 inches. As Dan says in the interview, they've chosen to create mobile specs that are considerably lower than UHD because it doesn't really make a difference at the 3-7 inch smartphone level-- you can do it, but the eye won't be able to discern the difference. And frankly, the real standard is even tighter than that. If I am to spend $XXX more on a device because it has this new technology, it had better blow me away. Being marginally better isn't going to cut it.

Re: UHDA Video Quality
Would be great to have better video quality on mobile devices. Apple has great retina displays but they are by far the biggest battery killer for them.

I think we need to try innovating the battery before the screen.

UHDA's Schinasi Talks Mobile Video Quality
Obviously video viewing on mobile devices is popular, and mobile devices are where most of it is being watched.  Schinasi pointed out it would take an individual 1 million years to view it all. Obviously, that could never happen but it's good to know that video quality is a priority.

curious quality
All this talk of ultra high definition has me wondering what point will be high enough definition? The human eye has limits. Will we continue pursuing definition levels the eye can't distinguish?
