Re: Security
@elizabethv I disagree with your statement on Target. I think it has hurt that business. Instead of people going to stores like Target, they are buying things on Amazon. Maybe its more of an indirect effect, but I think it has had impact.

Re: Security
@dcawrey - That's really interesting. Though if vendor's are addressing the issue, I can see where companies confidence and willingness to venture out would come from. It seems like an issue any company should always be keeping in mind, even if they know it will be handled. While the hack of Target (and other big businessses) doesn't seem to have cost them business, I can't imagine the game plan just being "if it happens we'll give all our customers a years worth of identity theft protection."

Re: Security
@elizabethv The security issue is way less of a problem than it was in years past. I agree that for some holdouts its still somewhat of an issue, but I think many vendors have really been able to overcome these sorts of objections.

Re: Security
Penetarting the defenses of the likes of Google, Amazon et. al will be like attacking Fort Knox.     It does require a leap of faith--I grant you that.  But we cannot stop progress even if we wanted to--right?

Security
I think security is the biggest aspect of getting more customers to move to the Cloud, but it's obviously going to continue to grow. And realistically, for most people, and especially businesses has to. The more information that anyone needs to or is storing, the more they are going to need the cloud. But you have to convince people that this "off-site" database is a secure place to put that information. With even big businesses like Target seeing hackers get ahold of their information, it's obvious no one is truly secure. Not even money can guarantee your safety. Focusing on this aspect, in my opinion, is going to be the biggest way to convince customers to move to the cloud.

Re: Enterprise Cloud
Cloud optimization makes me think back to the days when things like networking still needed major optimizations.

I'd say we're well past that point now for networks, as they have moved into software-based paradigms. Interesting times indeed.

Re: Enterprise Cloud
dcawrey,

And the move toward optimization fits pretty well with where cloud deployment is in the adoption cycle. It takes a long while to get a new technology to do anything at all, then a short while to get it to do things as well as or better than existing approaches, and then a long tail of development getting it to do things as well as it can. The cloud finished phase 1 and is now finishing phase 2; optimization will be phase 3 and might be a large part of the rest of our lifetimes. CenturyLink is wise to turn their focus that way.

Re: Enterprise Cloud
Yeah, of course cloud adoption is going to grow this year. It has been growing every year for a long time. I do like this idea of cloud optimization however, since it's pretty clear there is room for more performance and efficiency gains. It will be great to watch how that particular space grows.

Enterprise Cloud
They asked where do they see enterprise cloud sector and thwy said cloud optimization is something big that they really want to focus on. It's for the customer existing costs etc. Whatever is more affordable and convenient for the customers that works.
