Partnership
"We want to enlarge this [new public cloud] offering on a worldwide basis and we want to strengthen our capability to develop faster in terms of features, in terms of portfolio and in terms of our roadmaps. That's why we think our partnership with a key player like Huawei is a good move for us."

That is very ambitious but it they have the right tools and leadership it can be accomplished. Their partnership with Huawei can certaintly help them achieve their goal.

France
"As far as public cloud is concerned, in France in 2013 we created our own OpenStack cloud. We chose to have an OpenStack cloud platform and it's fully operational."

Creating you own OpenStack cloud is pretty impressive and one that is fully operational. Kudos to France for doing that. I would love to see the statistics on usage and how the cloud is being used to solve problems.

Value
"I think part of the value proposition is not only to have a good platform, but also to have the ecosystem of tools -- from monitoring white boxes to provisioning, billing and so on to make sure that the they keep control."

Someone sees the light. They are definitely on the right path. They seem to have good leadership and a person who gets it. Hopefully this will translate to other companies.

Re: Orange has it covered for Cloud
@dcawrey, I agree. Huwaei is a true leader in the market and partnering with them was definitely a smart business move. Kudos to Orange.

Re: platform
@Ariella, I was wondering the same thing. They need to elaborate more on that statement.

Re: Laplane: Orange Has Cloud Covered
The Cloud is huge and very important in a lot of ways. Also partnering up is a great move because it'll lead to newer, fresher ideas.

Management Journalism in a data-driven world
Interesting, too, that after making the difficult initial decision to be in the game at all, Orange seems to regard most of the rest of the implementation (decision for Open Stack and to partner with Huawei) as pretty much data-driven. I suspect a lot of IT and telco stories will go like that in the future: "we made a basic decision and then optimized subject to situational constraints."

A tiny humanities point
A tiny humanities point: isn't it interesting how metaphors get away from us (and eventually fall into catachresis, i.e. we forget what the metaphor refers to)? I read right through the perfectly intelligible idea that you put something into a cloud so that it will be less dispersed before I thought, wait, what? A cloud is LESS dispersed?

Laplane: Orange Has Cloud Covered
This will be a great deal because the cloud is very huge nowadays witht he upgrades everyone has made to it. There are the flaws just like everything else so they will just need to upgrade the tiny specs when they appear but i think the cloud is very good right now and dont need no improvements to it with all that said with orange having cloud covered they will be on the safe side of thing and looking foward to see where everything is in the future. I hope evrything will be great still with the new security they have been talking about.
