Re: AR/VR Killer Apps
@afwriter, yes, this is a natural for creating positive interactions and delivering content that is important to the human development.  Education, training/re-training, feedback, etc., can all be sustainable uses that truly add value.

Re: AR/VR Killer Apps
dcawrey - absolutely. while gaming and mobile use cases are often discussed, there's a strong "productive video" case to be made. Companies like Boeing have already found that intructions/training via AR/VR are far more effective and result in a lower failure rate for production, as compared with printed manuals.

Re: AR/VR Killer Apps
afwriter - in fact I think manufacturing will probably lead AR/VR deployment since training floor employees is such a constant requirement, and depending on the product, a high failure rate is such a problem.

Re: AR/VR Killer Apps
I never thought much about AR/VR being used outside of entertainment but the more I read about it the more interesting its use cases become. I love the idea of using AR to advance education in ways that were not possible until now.

Killer Apps for AR/VR
VR in education for people in the field has come such a long way. Like how Mehta mentions the app to teach mechanics how to replace brake pads. I can't imagine learning something like that from a manual.

Re: AR/VR Killer Apps
@dcawrey, I agree - I believe this is a more sustainable business case for AR/VR.  If it develops the skills and expands education, it becomes a competitive alternative to other methods; as opposed to an optional form of entertainment.

Re: AR/VR Killer Apps
I have thought that non-entertainment uses might be the first to take off here.

Things are AR for work and education seem to be really good use cases. And there are big companies that will pay top dollar for things like productivity.

AR/VR Killer Apps
I think the killer app for 3D videos will be very interesting to see how that turns out.
