Re: channel
@Adi Back in the last century people recorded their favorite shows if they couldn't be home to watch them when they were on. Now I would think usage changes somewhat, particularly with our propensity for binge watching. It's possible people record even while watching just to get the whole series together for a future binge.

Re: channel
Netflix is just a whole lot bigger, and also different commercial reasons for both parts.

Re: channel
Clara Mai Kunstmann  - that's an interesting difference. Why did TDC decide to choose different approaches for the two?

Re: channel
dcawrey - I think you're seeing an experience fundamentally designed for linear consumption trying to adapt to a non-linear, multi-platform world now. I do feel some pay-tv UIs are very good, but being stuck with a poor UI is extraordinarily frustrating. Also with so many moving parts now, it takes time to figure out how to navigate as well. The UI might have a particular feature that does exactly what you want --but you don't know how.

Re: channel
Ariella - There's probably a few people still using VCRs, but DVRs are certainly very popular. Series passes on your DVR that catch your favorite shows. Not sure what the numbers are but generally speaking as you look at progressively younger demographics you are more likey to see time-shifted viewing account for more of their time.

Re: channel
@dcawrey that's the beauty of on demand viewing. Also, I'm wondering: does anyone still record TV shows to watch later?

Re: channel
Television today have awful discovery. It's hard to find anything to watch when you want to watch it. It's like I'm being served up a meal I have to eat. Am I still in grade school or what?

Re: channel
It is more of a communication way than the way we see it. It is just easier to explain to the customers that a value of a "channel" in a channel shop. Netflix also has its own channel as a shortcut to the app - HBO has not. That is mixed with other VOD or in their "universe" within youSees app.

<we see Netflix and HBO as channels. More expensive perhaps, but basically channels.> Interesting perspective. I do regard HBO as a channel, but I think of Netflix as more than that.
