(And Curt, thanks for the tip! I'm checking the site out right now!)
@Mike, sure: https://www.securitynow.com/radio.asp?doc_id=733540
Curt, can you add a link?
We're a sister site for Telco Transformation -- our online media empire just keeps growing!
In this brief lull, I wanted to let folks know about another online radio show premiering later this afternoon: At 3:00 p.m. EDT we're launching Voice of Security Radio at SecurityNow.com. Join me over there where we'll be talking security and devops!
OK, thanks Arpit and Mazin, and for everyone else that joined us today. Looks like there will be plenty to follow up on ONAP the rest of the year.
for more details on security or services, I suggest the following wiki link on documentation.

If anyone would like to download the ECOMP white paper, then please go to about.att.com/content/dam/snrdocs/ecomp.pdf . More videos are at http://about.att.com/innovation/labs
If we were to equate platforms with services, however, would they best be considered as services to the end users -- or services to the devs? (Or, perhaps, both?)
I covered the question on standards bodies as well. I would recommend downlaoding a white paper that shows how standards and open source can work together in a full stack.

Either of you have time to addres security and ONAP?
To carol's question, the vendors realize that virtualization and open source is part of the solution and they are working on new business models. From education, training to professional services and platform deployment. ONAP is a platform, like an operating system, and not a service that you can deploy.
Indeed, many comedians live by the credo: Always leave them wanting more.
While the audio cut off was not planned, I can say that we enjoyed the questions and discuaaion ans and it always feels good when the community wants more....
Arpit
(Also, for those interested, Part 2 of that conversation is up as of yesterday: (link))
Audio is done but we have about 10 minutes of online chat here.
We also had a question about the need for stanards bodies. For instance, Facebook is taking a more active role with TIP in 5G. Do we still need standards bodies?
@Carol: This very concern was discussed at length in my recent Telco Transformation interview with CenturyLink's Gahn Lane. It's all about perceived-risk tolerance. (link)
is the audio up? i am still unable to hear anything.!
A bright future is likely open source and reference design. IP would not be a concern in this model as long as the licensing happens correctly. Services and support are probably where more value for vendors will be.
How are you addressing vendor concerns - which they are increasingly voicing - that they are having a hard time making the business model work around open source software?
GOLD
Carol, hopefully, I addresssed your question in the audio. Vendors are playing an even bigger role as they contribute to common code and then help innovate on top. Plus the life cyle to deployment is speeded up for faster revenue and engagement. Relationship change from supplier-vendor to co-creator of shared technology
Great! Thanks, Liz, Mike, et al.!
Arpit, I think you answered this but just in case:
How are you addressing vendor concerns - which they are increasingly voicing - that they are having a hard time making the business model work around open source software?
Let me answer a question on Microservices. ONAP employs microservices in the form of containers. It is applied in A&AI, DCAE analytics and throughout the platform.
Hi All! Apologies for stop in the audio -- we are experiencing technical difficulties with the radio show platform. Mike and Matzin and Arpit will be on the chat boards in a few minutes -- stand by.
@Ariella: "Uncertainty is the only certainty there is, and knowing how to live with insecurity is the only security." - attributed to John Allen Paulos
And it's a shame -- the conversation was very, very good!
Sorry about the audio ending.
Yeah, on this paltform when the time's up, it's up decisively.
@Ariella/@Michelle: Okay, so it's not just me.
@Ariella yes, the audio is gone
@michelle is that why we had a sudden stop?
q.v. re: nonprofits and business: https://www.wsj.com/articles/SB10000872396390444017504577647502309260064
Did the audio just fade out?
Time's up... apparently :)
@Joe he was absolutely right.
@Curt: And, of course, there's only what we know about in the tech press...with lots of conflicts and actions and arbitrations and negotiations and mediations going on quietly that we don't know about.
@Ariella: Precisely what I was thinking about.
I would see it as big step forward...
@Kelsey: I'll never forget one of the most important life lessons I got. I worked at a nonprofit while in college. I heard the general manager (the guy who ran the place) and my immediate supervisor talking about "profits." Naive teenage me chimed in, "Duh, I thought we were not for profit!" (I may not have actually said the "Duh"). The general manager, a very large, very jovial man, let out an ENORMOUS boffo, clapped me on the shoulder, and said, "Kid, every business is for profit."
@Joe, I think it depends on the size of the company. I know that I once was actively doing work for one part of Microsoft while being sued by another -- I think it might happen more often than we would think.
@Joe yes, particulary with questions of patent infringement.
@Ariella: Not these companies specifically, that I'm aware of, but it happens quite frequently in the Valley/in the tech sector.
ODM's are fully onboard and focused on open source in moving the solutions forward.
@Joe are they really suing each other now?
Yes, I do assume the water is going to be on, but I've learned I can't always rely on some services, given that my electricity suffered 3 different disruptions recently with another actually scheduled for next week.
@Michelle: I do! Those were the days. *sigh*
Answer to poll: Cloud-native based microservices
@Kelsey: That's like asking "Do we still need [any industry/company]?" Standards bodies are nonprofit organizations, and nonprofit organizations are still -- at the end of the day -- businesses, despite the "nonprofit designation.
@Joe you probably remember when you had to type WIN in DOS to launch windows (3.1)
Hi All! Late to the party but glad to be here.
@Curt/@Ariella: In mature tech markets like these, companies can at once be archenemies and great frirends. How often do they actively collaborate on projects WHILE actively suing each other? ;)
@Carol that's an excellent question.
Do we still need standards bodies?
How are you addressing vendor concerns - which they are increasingly voicing - that they are having a hard time making the business model work around open source software?
@michelle: Probably the first command I learned was "dir". (Ahhhh.... MS-DOS...)
is ONAP built for Telecomm only, or it can be used by other industries?
Ariella, wasn't that the whole point behind Ray Noorda's old "coopetition" strategy?
(There will *ALWAYS* be better data models...and then better ones on top of those.)
Poll answer: microservices (first option)
would companies that are competors really be able to fully trust each other though?
culture of collaboration sounds excellent
some of the first commands you teach your kids ;)
PLATINUM
that is so true and funny!
some of the first commands you teach your kids ;)
heh, true about ping and traceroute
Sounds exciting, new names coming out!
They really do get around!
but if you don't know what you're doing, you've got a bit more work to do to get started :)
Poll answer: A Cloud-native based microservices
Blending orchestration with OSS
Q-4 is pretty close, actually
Definitely, there is rela pain and real problems that require real solutions.
Poll
What will have the biggest impact initially for ONAP?
* Cloud-native based microservices
• Onboarding and lifecycle management of VNFs
•Blending orchestration with OSS
•Creating a better data model
Love that: "best brains" coming together to build something "really phenomenonal" together
the new approach sounds much better
@Michelle, I may try that next time. The chat is working faster now, as I see the comment I just posted.
the blueptint for manufacturing a car with the requisite connections -- that's a good way of picturing it.
@Ariella I just switched to FF. Audio is working well. You may have flash disabled...
I'm on Safari but probably the only one in the world right now. I can see my posts right away though
@Mike I've tried IE and Mozilla in the past but only when I couldn't get the audio to load. What do you use?
@Mike @Michellel I'm also on Chrome, though not incognito
I like that: "open source should b e aplatform for innovation."
yeah -- chrome from incognito tab
Ariella and Michelle, are you on Chrome? I quit using Chrome for radio shows
@Michelle so it's not my browser to blame.
@Ariella I'm seeing a delay on my end too...
beginning with the end user in mind sounds great
there seems to be a delay on seeing the chat comments. I have to refresh to bring them up to date.
Hello. I'm very interested in this talk.
Oh good question -- interesting to hear the drivers for opening up...
So that would be just 2 months ago.
Oh, are we talking about where we would vacation? Shucks I'm on "vacation" right now -- as much as I can ever be on vacation, I suppose.
Sad to hear that the honeymoon is over.
Hi, guys! Glad to be here. (At least, until the person who's late to call me goes ahead and calls me...)
Hopefully along the coast
Hopefully camping somewhwere
Is there another healthcare Transformation Radio Live Chat? Tks

hope to attend should be interesting
It will be interesting to see if the coming together of the two approaches has driven new momentum for MANO and NFV adoption.
This should be a great show! I'm looking forward to it.
Looking forward to hearing from the Linux Foundation!
