Re: Anchor for broadband
It's prett obvious at this point people will pay for video.

They won't pay for many things, but it seems like video is taking priority over other things. That's not a bad position to be in for the service providers!

Re: Anchor for broadband
@ADI that makes sense if the videos are what lure them in in the first place.

Re: Digicel video service is much needed
@Adi - without a doubt video is picking up. And horrifyingly, I've noticed a steep decline in people's reading comprehension. Anymore it seems like if something is longer than 140 characters, they can't handle the chain of thought. I have no idea what this truly means for the future of literature, but it seems grim.

Anchor for broadband
Video anchors the bundle -- that's what we've heard from some operators. So even if the primary goal is to be the broadband access provider, you are better off doing so as a multi-service provider. And video seems to help anchor that subscriber -- video plus broadband subscribers are less likely to churn than just a single-service broadband subscriber.

Re: Digicel video service is much needed
batye - I think both communication and entertainment are moving in the direction of video -- we see far more video on social networking sites, and shared on Instagram etc. And of course, we are seeing print decline and video entertainment via OTT increase. So I think that's the trend that these operators are picking up on.

Video Always Relevant
Digicel has tapped into an important market in the Caribbean and Pacific islands. Digicel's Quinn said people were largely pirating content to view. Going from 0 fixed lines to more than 100,000 subscribers in only two years shows video was the right thing for the company to get into in that region.
