Re: Ethernet for AWS
What's great here is the idea that ethernet can scale further than it ever has been able to before. The technology has been constrained by hardware for forever.

Ah - so it's like when vendors/contractors have the "call for rates" on their sites next to their services instead of having them listed up front.

@faryl Usually when announcements come out with little clarity like this is mean availability is wherever the most customers are and the pricing is negotiable.

Re: Ethernet for AWS
I feel like I am missing something obvious - why did it take so long for them to announce its availability and why so mum on pricing?

Re: Ethernet for AWS
I'd have to gamble Google will scale up.

Look, Oracle talks a lot about cloud. But really, isn't what they are doing still a bunch of on-premise? Isn't it still just a bunch of servers in a local datacenter serving up "cloud"?

That's why I think Google the next one up.

Re: Ethernet for AWS
@afwriter, True. It just shows that old things are still useful in a new world of technology. Ethernet has been in use since 1980 and can provide up to 100 gigabit speeds similar to that of 5G. I wonder if Ethernet and 5G can be combined?

Re: Level 3 Ethernet for AWS
@dchampagne70. Good point. Anything to make the internet better and faster I am all for it. Ethernet has been a slow steady technology that has lasted longer than many other technologies and still provides many benefits for companies.

Slow
""Network connection to the cloud has not been that simple, historically," said Chris McReynolds, vice president of core network services at Level 3 Communications Inc. (NYSE: LVLT). "It's relatively painful. Users would usually go to their salesperson and say..."

This is why cloud services too so long to get adopted by companies. Now that implementation time has been greatly reduced I think we will see a huge increase in adoption.

Re: Ethernet for AWS
@mhhf1ve, I am surprised it hasn't lasted as long as it has. It great that it can be used with web services. This allows Amazon to develop a partnership with Level 3.
