Re: More Hiring for Positions
Also, perhaps employers are trying to get one person to do the job of three people in a way. Instead of hiring two people who each specialize in one task-- hire one person who knows both tasks (which could be a rare find). A person doing multiple tasks can't necessarily ask for double the salary, and an employer will surely save on furnishing benefits to one employee instead of two or more.

Re: More Hiring for Positions
I think you may be right. Not knowing what they need can easily end up as "skills shortage" because they can't find people with impossible qualifications.

Cloud is providing jobs, and that's a good thing.

Other sectors aren't doing so well. But in many parts of the US, unemployment is really low. Maybe cloud is a big part of that?

Re: More Hiring for Positions
It's funny cuz it's true... if every joke has a kernel of truth then I'm sure the skills shortage is actually a shortage of knowing what is really required to perform a job. So recruiters toss everything and the kitchen sink into the job requirements to see if they can find someone who qualifies. Then if no one shows up, then the requirements can be whittled down until someone matches.

@mhhf1ve, Isn't that the joke? There are many variations floating around the internet, but they all basically say that you need to be fresh out of college with at least 10 years of experience.

Re: More Hiring for Positions
I'm always curious about "skills shortages" -- and if anyone ever delves deeper into these shortages to see if there are actual shortages. I've anecdotally heard that some positions ask for impossible qualifications -- like over 10 years experience doing some tech that hasn't even existed that long....

Re: unemployment
That's a good point. I had to resist putting some sort of Trump joke in there.

More Hiring for Positions
I'm in IT/Information Technology because I like and I'm familiar with computers in a way. I'm glad to see them adding more jobs because things are becoming more advanced but with many wins there are losses but not compared to the success they've had.

unemployment
2.4% is an excellent number to show for unemployment. Perhaps thats because much of the movement comes from people with jobs switching directly into other jobs without pausing long enough to be classified as unemployed.
