Re: Verizon
Agree with you. Verizon coverage is very broad i noticed. We switched to Verizon couple months ago and we also moved houses. And now i am seeing not great reception often. Not sure if that is my location.

Re: Verizon
@afwriter:

I can also relate to similar experience in the past. I was with T-Mobil and it was way poor rceeption 3-4 years ago in tri-state area here in east coast. I use to have hard time even at home. Have been hearing lately that things got way better now.

Re: common
So you look best if you write a lot and bank on the law of averages? Sounds good to me.

Congratulations to you! I'm happy to know a clever sci-fi writer who predicted major storms (or actually didn't). KEEP IT UP

Re: Verizon
I have had AT&T for about 9 years and the first 5 years are so I couldn't get reception when I left the Twin Cities to go back to my population 12K town. I get reception now, but I am guessing that when you get to even more rural areas it's still not great. If I traveled more I would probably look into switching to Verizon.

Re: common
The first secret of being a science fiction writer who predicted the future is that if you predict enough stuff, something or other will come true. The second and better secret is that nobody remembers a sci fi novel accurately, and they adjust them to make you much more prescient than you were (i benefit a lot from that, this hurricane-ridden season, because of Mother of Storms. According to my fans, I successfully predicted all sorts of things that are not actually in the book!)

Re: Verizon
@Elizabeth I agree with the rep about cell coverage and pricing between the big two. I think you could do well to check-in with pricing each time your contract is up. There may be more options to lower your bill (or keep it within an acceptable range).

Moving to Spring or T-Mobile brings about a different experience...

Re: Verizon
I once thought the same. There are large swaths of dead zone in Texas alone. I recently went on a road trip and needed cell coverage -- there was none for several hours during the journey. Plenty of wind farms, but no cell coverage (not even roaming). Citywide coverage is quite good, however.

Make sure you put that last part in a book sometime :) I like to think future readers might smirk at your brilliance -- knowing the future and all.

Re: common
Old tech has an amazing hang time. My first commercial flight was after the first moon landing and when the Concorde was flying regularly -- and it was in a Ford Trimotor (first commercially successful American "airliner"), which was a perfectly fine plane for the 15 minute flight from Port Clinton, Ohio, to Put-In-Bay. I had written 100 computer programs in classes and for hobby projects before I saw a CRT screen -- in fact a good half of them had been on Hollerith cards.

There will still be a mainframe or two running someplace, doing something vital, when people are trying to get over their hangovers on January 1, 2100.

Re: Verizon
I still think Verizon has the best coverage, and that's worth paying for if you ask me. Yes, AT&T is often faster in cities. But Verizon's coverage is everywhere.
