Re: Blueprint for Digital
Exactly. I think it’s only a matter of time before Google drops from the top dog here. Like you said, trying to do too much that doesn’t work out.

Re: Blueprint for Digital
@clrmoney, Several companies have not embarked on OSS and BSS. This is probably due to lack of funding, fear or lack of executive support. With everything there are risks but at some point companies must see that benefits outweigh risks.

Being more agile is critical for telco to remain competitive.

Framework
It is great that TM Forum recognizes the need for common framework and standards for vendors, and deployment. Common standards and frameworks will help reduce integration and deployment costs. This will increase ROI and TCO and should make shareholders happy.

APIs
APIs are powerful tools that don't get the recognition they deserve. TM Forum offering 50 APIs is great for companies that don't want to create their own. 28 companies signing up is a small number but shows that there is interest. Deploying to 28 countries is great and shows that there is interest in APIs globally.

Re: Blueprint for Digital
@clrmoney, Good point. The TM Forum is doing great work. Being able to reduce 4,500 systems down to 26 platforms is amazing. I learned in college how powerful APIs are. Unfortunately most companies don't realize this and they are missing out.

Re: Blueprint for Digital
@dcawrey: Carriers have some advantages and some have leveraged them. BT is an example--it has a cloud-of-cloud service which has been used in smart cities effectively. They also have the most comprehensive data on cell phone usage which gives them an edge in customer information. The issues are more about strategy and culture. Technology is usually available in an ecosystem.

Re: Blueprint for Digital
Web-scale is certainly where these telcos need to get to.

The problem is that the Googles of the world have pioneered web scale. They are so far ahead it's going to be tough to catch up!
